Austin, capital of the Lone Star State, prides itself on big city attitude amid quirky small town charm, the kind that attract locals from Lance Armstrong to Willie Nelson and the Dixie Chicks. Natural attractions include Barton Springs, a spring-fed swimming hole with constant 68-degree waters, and some 220 area parks, including the 360-acre Zilker Park, and three major lakes -- Lake Travis, Lake Austin and Town Lake. Sixth Street and Warehouse District are two hot entertainment zones for live music with more than 100 restaurants, clubs and bars. Among Austin’s some 22,000 hotel rooms, more than 5,000 rooms are downtown.
